Leftover in the 'fridge means I am loved

Last night I stepped into the greenhouse, it was late, perhaps midnight. I had an 'ice cream date' with someone whom I will not be seeing again, but alas, that is not the point of this. So I stepped into the greenhouse for my nightly survey of "things" and ohhh the smell of it. I knew that smell. Sweet and candy-like sugary smell that fills my nostrils and I can almost see it hanging around, waiting to be sourced. Of course I know what it is. It is a smell that previously had come but once a year. This is the unexpected June bloom of my 'hoya archboldiana' and it is always a pleasure to see the very large merlot flowers hanging around in the plant. Hoya flowers on most species are quite demure but plentiful. On my 'hoya archboldiana' they are much fewer, about 5 on a panicle(flower spike), and they hang down nearly 2 inches. Star-shaped and heavily scented. Hmmmm, what could be better than that?

Overall, the garden is, as usual, a lovely a delightful place to find myself. My tomato plants are surging up through their cages and I am hoping for a very large "give-awayable" crop. The golden plum tree in the rear of the yard is so heavy with fruit that the branches are sagging to the ground. It is so juicy and delicious. Last year, when we moved in, the pear tree was also very heavy with fruit but the quality was very poor due to no water at the roots. This summer my orchids sir around and hang throughout the tree, getting watered nearly everyday, so I'm hoping that the pears end up being much more juicy as well. Still almost no weeds to speak of. I just see them and stop them as they come up. They really are no match for my persistence.
